Eric J. Smith A.I.A. is the founding principal of the New York-based firm Eric J. Smith Architect. His respectful, sensitive designs are the result of orderly, thoughtful planning integrated with a deep understanding of his clients’ lives and lifestyles.
Smith graduated from the University of Illinois Champaign/Urbana Honors program, which culminated in a year at the University de Paris in Versailles, France. Upon graduation, Smith practiced architecture in Chicago. He moved to New York City when he decided to affiliate with the interior designer David Easton, with whom he worked closely for many years.
Smith formed his practice in 1987. Personal referrals continue to expand his practice, which focuses almost exclusively on custom residential projects – whether apartments, houses, townhouses or country homes ‐ all over the New York region; west in California and Colorado; south in Florida, South Carolina and Bermuda; in New England, Chicago, Dallas; and internationally in London. He routinely works with prestigious interior designers including Alexa Hampton, David Easton, Diana Hambleton, William Diamond and many others. He is an active member of the Institute for Classical Architecture & Art.
